PURE GENIUS

Posted on 18th January 2013 in Marinoni, Products, Road Bike

Year after year, Marinoni continues to offer our customers some of the most beautiful, high-preforming bicycles at a value rarely matched by their competition. Whether you are a passionate leisure cyclist, commuter, serious racer — or anything in between, Marinoni is ready to make your dream bike. Although Marinoni holds a rich history of producing high quality, made-to-measure framesets in lighweight steel, and titanium, Marinoni has been sourcing and designing some very, very nice carbon fibre race bikes too. Although these frames are not hand-produced by Marinoni, they are a result of the artisinal tradition, highest standards, and masterful experience that Marinoni has acquired through decades of framebuilding. New this year, the Genius frameset stands out from the pack! With a BB86 bottom bracket shell (beefy!) and a 1 – 1/8″ to 1.5″ tapered headtube, this frame is effeciently putting your riding power into the wheels, wasting no time with unneeded frame flex. This frame uses aesemetric chainstays, a design concept that companies such as Pinarello have sworn by for a few years now on their top-end +5000$ framesets! The idea here is that aesemetry in key points on a bicycle frame will help reduce variences in side to side frame deflection. Frame deflection is caused from the forces a strong cyclist will transfer to the bike while sprinting, climbing, cornering — any high effort situation where force is applied to one side of the bike more than the other. The frame, created by Columbus’ carbon lab, is keepin it aero with sleek, shaped tubes and internal cable routing. With a claimed weight of 900g the Genius is on par with ultra-light frames from brands like Cervelo, Pinarello, and Look, all while costing way less.

The Genius frameset is available in 6 sizes, with proven race geometry. Access to the latest and greatest in carbon road bike innovation is now available for 2325$+tx. With more and more jaw dropping Marinoni’s being sold at Bikurious, it’s only a matter of time until we add a Genius to the list.

Skinny Leg- Jenny Lin

Posted on 12th December 2012 in Uncategorized

I recently picked up a copy of ‘Skinny Leg’ at Expozine 2012. I feel so lucky that after many years of tabling [ with my short lived project of Bike Crush ]  at and attending Expozine, I have mastered the ability to blaze through the masses of dark rimed glasses and woolen clothing items in order to snatch up the key new editions of certain classics and sometimes i luck out so nicely and pick up something LOCAL & about BIKES!!!

This personal account of author Jenny Lin’s experience having had their leg run over by a garbage truck is one that I fear I have heard in so many variations down at the shop and within friends. The story really highlights the emotional sides of the aftermath of losing mobility and being cooped up inside for long periods of time.

The story is so very honest and very endearing. It’s also very Montreal in imagery and in circumstance.I hope to try to convince Jenny to come and do a reading down at the shop one day soon!

The book has been published from B&D Press and you can snatch a copy here! It’s even available in POP UP and a beautiful screenprinted case bound book version!!!

Thanks for making this Jenny! It’s GREAT!

THINGS WE LOVE: H+SON Archetype Rims!

Posted on 8th December 2012 in Uncategorized

In a shop like ours, where custom handbuilt wheels are produced daily, it’s surprising to look over and see a wheelbuilder (Marissa in this case) so EXCITED about the wheel they are putting together. Don’t get me wrong, we are excited about any project we take on, but seeing the “bling” of the bike world day after day, it’s only normal to start treating it as something commonplace. Every once in a while, however, something so perfect arrives in our work schedule that we all need to stop, gawk at it, and express our admiration in good ol’ print! So, come to see us and ask us why this H+Son Archetype / VO Road hub is one of the sweeeeetest all-round wheels for city riding, competitive training, and more!
